A Note from the Director
Communicating that which matters most about the Colorado Chorale in a few short paragraphs...
Would I share the nature of rehearsals: joyful, demanding, time suspending, life-giving?
Perhaps I would talk about the music: timeless, contemporary, profound, challenging (vocally, intellectually, and spiritually)?
Could I leave out the people: skillful, genuine, and committed?
Would I mention performances: exhilarating!
But also...
I believe in the power of choice...
...the choice to pursue musical excellence and apprehend it through thorough, skilled, intelligent application of our faculties. I believe in choosing to be kind as we pursue this excellence while demanding the highest quality product (musically and personally). I believe in choosing to work hard, long after others have donned coats and hats and left for home. I believe in choosing to do everything we know to maximize our positive impact on those given to our care or our company, if only for an hour.
I believe in people...
...and in the sacrifices they make to create, support and improve the things they love...in their susceptibility to joy, to love, to honesty and above all things, to hope. I believe in their sacrificial care for one another through word and deed. I believe in their voices, empowered and inspired by their hearts, minds, and spirits.
I believe in music making...
...and that musical intercourse with composers and arrangers invites us to remember the wisdom of the ages and the wonder of a child! I believe in music making, empowered and inspirited by our dedication and choice - and that it awakens and nurtures our humanity and the humanity of those who hear us. I believe that our vulnerability to one another and the music we make changes us. And I believe we change those who hear us sing because we've known a wholeness, a wholeness that all long for, a wholeness that is only available to ones who have truly faced themselves.
